DENNIS DIEKS


Dennis Dieks studied theoretical physics at the University of Amsterdam, after which he turned to the
foundations of physics and the philosophy of science. He earned his PhD with a dissertation entitled
Studies in the Foundations of Physics, at Utrecht University (1981). In 1993 he was appointed full
professor of the Philosophy and Foundations of the Natural Sciences at Utrecht University, and
director of the Institute for Foundations of Science of the same university.
Since June 2014 he is a professor emeritus at Utrecht University.
Dennis Dieks is a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences (KNAW).
He is an editor of the journal Foundations of Physics (Springer) and of the book series European
Studies in the Philosophy of Science (Springer). He is a past editor of the journal Studies in the History
and Philosophy of Modern Physics (Elsevier) and a member of several professional organizations.
Dennis Dieks has published widely on subjects relating to space and time, the foundations and
philosophy of quantum theory, probability and general philosophy of science;
